Agenda Item: VII.D.

Consider/Approve Door Access Control Bid

Background Information:

In addition to advertising, we solicited bids from Townsend Systems and Pro-Tec Security for the purchase of a door access control system (key card system) for Ridgemont Elementary School. The door access control system will secure the entire school. We received bids from Townsend Systems ($11,800.00) and Pro-Tec Security ($14,797.12, base bid with no alternatives). A summary of the submitted bids is attached for your reference.

The purchase of the door access control system was anticipated during the budget planning process for the current fiscal year. Over the past five (5) years, monitoring and securing our buildings has been a top priority. Funds are appropriated in the FY11 budget as approved by the Board, within the Building Improvements line item. In addition, the System will receive $11,500 from the State Safe Schools Grant to cover the majority of this purchase.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the low bid as submitted by Townsend Systems in the amount of $11,800 for the purchase of a door access control system for Ridgemont Elementary School.
